A.D. Rattray is a highly respected Scottish independent whisky bottler. The company has deep historical roots, but was only revitalised in its current form in the early 21st century. The original company was founded in Glasgow in 1868 by Andrew Dewar Rattray. A.D. Rattray was not originally a pure whisky merchant, but also imported French wines, Italian spirits and olive oil. At the same time, however, he also established himself in the Scottish whisky trade, both as a blender and as a dealer and agent for various distilleries. Over the years, A.D. Rattray developed into a well-known name in whisky brokerage and blending. Like many traditional companies, A.D. Rattray ran into difficulties in the course of the 20th century, particularly after the world wars, and the company s business activities largely dwindled or were discontinued.
The A.D. Rattray brand was officially revived in 2004 (the first bottlings under the name were released in 2002). The main force behind this was Stanley Walker (Tim) Morrison. Tim Morrison is the great-great-grandson of founder Andrew Dewar Rattray. More importantly, Tim Morrison is a very prominent figure in the whisky industry - he was previously the owner and managing director of Morrison Bowmore Distillers (which included the Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch distilleries). This deep family connection and his decades of experience in whisky production and selection have been instrumental in shaping A.D. Rattray s direction today.
Today, the A.D. Rattray Cask Collection of selected and exclusive single cask bottlings from various Scottish malt and grain whisky distilleries and numerous rums is the centrepiece of the range, giving whisky enthusiasts and rum lovers the opportunity to discover unique and unadulterated bottlings.
A.D. Rattray is now an established and respected independent bottler, bridging the gap between its rich history and modern whisky appreciation. With a clear focus on single cask bottlings of high quality, a transparent bottling policy and interesting own brands such as Cask Islay and Stronachie, A.D. Rattray caters for both experienced connoisseurs and curious explorers in the world of Scotch whisky.
