Duncan Taylor has its origins in Glasgow where the company was originally active as traders and brokers for the whisky industry. After Prohibition was abolished in the United States, the businessman Abe Rosenberg competed together with his two brothers for a license to trade in alcoholic beverages. Shortly after the Second World War Rosenberg decided together with Charlie Guttman, the owner of Paddington Industries to form a company to import and J and B Scotch Whisky in the USA. Initially, the business was restrained and the company imported only about 25,000 cases per year. His expertise in sales and sales made the company more than 30 years one of the largest in the United States with sales of more than 3.5 million cases. Ultimately, the company was sold to Grand Met in 1980. Abe Rosenberg was not only a very accomplished business man, but also a passionate lover of Scotch whisky and especially of single malt whisky. Already he bought the former 60s barrels of new bottlings of numerous distilleries throughout Scotland and agreed that the acquired barrels were further stored at the distilleries. He also had a fondness for the varieties of whisky, which were then used mostly for blending and today are among the most coveted single malt whiskys. Through years of selection and purchase of barrels in the distilleries Duncan Taylor finally had a portfolio of more than 3,000 barrels to an average of about 35-year-old single malt and single grain whiskys, while the stock of old to one of the world s greatest collections and rare whiskys privately owned. In 1994, Abe Rosenberg died at the age of 85 years, the company hired to operate and trade and possessed at that time a possession of nearly 4,000 barrels of whisky with many treasures, especially from the 60s and 70s, all still intact in distillers camped.
After his death, named after Ape Rosenberg and his wife Ape and Susi Foundation was continued under a charitable foundation that would sell the existing Whisky Barrels for good causes. Duncan Taylor took over the American company the commercialization and bottling. In 2001, Euan Shand took along with his partner Alan Gordon, the company Duncan Taylor and laid in the year the headquarters from New York to Huntly. In December 2002, the company also has a special whisky shop opened also on their own premises in Huntly, in the exhibited companies products and the new brand will be introduced in the UK market. Since the takeover Duncan Taylor and Co. have several Cask Strength Single Malt and Single Grain whiskys bottled who have experienced great recognition both within the whisky experts as well as whisky connoisseurs and lovers throughout the world and have won numerous awards. In particular, the single cask bottlings from the old Rare Auld Edition by Duncan Taylor are now considered almost legendary.
