Hakushu distillery is located in the Southern Japanese Alps and is owned by Suntory, one of the big two Japanese single malt distillers. The distillery started operating in 1973 on the 50th anniversary of the start of construction of its sister distillery, Yamazaki. Nowadays all Hakushu single malt is produced in Hakushu Higashi, a second distillery that was built on the same site in 1981. In 2012 Suntory launched its first ever Hakushu Sherry Cask expression, which is Hakushu new make matured entirely in selected sherry casks. Hakushu Sherry Cask 2013 is a superior single malt whisky made from the carefully selected sherry cask-aged Hakushu malts. The Hakushu Sherry Cask 2013 edition was released on 5 February 2013 with a limited outturn of 3,000 bottles. A great japanese Single Malt from Hakushu!
The Hakushu distillery is a figurehead of Japanese whisky Arts is undoubtedly one of the highest in the world and is located about 120 km west of Tokyo in the woods of Kaikomagatake Mountain in the southern Japanese Alps and was once the largest malt distillery of the World. Here can be produced annually with 24 stills up to 26 million liters. The distillery was founded in 1973 and extended in 1981 by another production building with 12 pot stills. Today only operates one of the nursing homes, but the principle of diversity one remained faithful. Nowhere else is there a comparable range of shapes and sizes of pot stills. For the filling of Hakushu imported malt from Scotland and Ireland is used. The special climate, lush forests, the water - its clarity and purity old granite is achieved by millennia only by filtration of rain and melt water - all this affects the produced here, special malt whiskys. Hakushu is adjacent to the famous Yamazaki and Hibiki Distillery third distillery Suntory Bowmore Group and produced a world highly valued Single Malt Whisky. So the excellent work of Yamazaki distillery in 2015 was honored with the accolade by the world-renowned whiskey expert Jim Murray: For the first time a renowned British expert has awarded the award for the world s finest whisky to Japan. The single malt whisky from Hakushu now count among connoisseurs and lovers as the rare bottlings of Karuizawa, Kawasaki and Hanyu with the popular Japanese single malt whiskys.
