Springbank 1969 34 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky Old Malt Cask 40.9% ABV by Douglas Laing - one of only 196 bottles
The Springbank Distillery is a distillery on the Kintyre Peninsula in the region Campbeltwon. Flourished in the 17th century there, as throughout the peninsula and many other regions of the illegal production and smuggling of whisky. The distillery was founded in 1828 by the Reid family, making it the fourteenth, which was documented in Campbeltown. 1837 license for burning whisky was purchased. As 1920, the Prohibition in the United States began the distilleries had (not only) very hard hit in Scotland under the sales slump. Much of the more than 20 distilleries that existed at the time in Kintyre, had to cease operations in the following years and also has Springbank 1926 cannot produce until 1935. Some of the buildings date from the early years and everything else is very like the old days. Also unique is how the wash still and two spirit stills are used to an applied only in Springbank form of multiple distillation. It allows the production of several malts of different character and it is one of the few distilleries that produce more than a single malt - except Springbank also Longrow and is here burned Hazelburn since late 1997. For Hazelburn the malt is not peated, very intense in contrast Longrow and Springbank between. Upon firing, the first pass is equal for everyone. One of the peculiarities of Springbank is certainly that all production steps for the whisky making process from the cultivation of barley and processing in their own malt house to the bottling on site all be even performed. Throughout the manufacturing process much value is placed on tradition and even made a lot of hand. All bottlings of the distillery are not chill-filtered and bottled without the addition of dyes. Also owned by the Mitchell Dynasty is the company Wm. Cadenhead, one of the oldest and largest independent bottler of whisky in Scotland. The Springbank Single Malt has many facets, is easy to recognize and stands out with great finesse, elegance, spicy and salty notes in front of a creamy background are the main features of this world-class whisky. In particular, the filling of the 70s and 80s and the Single Cask bottlings and the famous Dark Sherry Single Malts show the extraordinary quality of this particular Scotch whiskies, are highly sought after by connoisseurs and whisky lovers and rarely to find.
