This special vintage 1991 16 years-old Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from a limited edition of only 24 carefully selected fresh port casks, bottled at natural cask strength 53.1% vol. in the year 2006 and the 3rd from a series of four limited Bowmore vintage bottlings from the year 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 with different cask types.
Every part of this whisky was hand crafted and distilled back in 1989: the barley was malted, hand turned and tradionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent 16 years slowly maturing in oak casks, before finally being decanted to the bottle. This is a true expression of Bowmore in its natural form, from the barley, to the barrel, to the bottle. The result is a Bowmore ruby red in colour, the aromas are big and luscious - stewed fruit berries, sweet black cherries and hints of bitter dark chocolate underlined by a lighter Bowmore smokiness. On the palate it is warm and rounded, packed full of fruit flavours of brambles and damson jam followed by a subtle earthy and peat smoke. The finish is deliciously warm and satisfying.
One of the few Bowmore Islay single malt Scotch whiskies matured in port casks and today the most sought-after bottling from the vintage limited edition series among connoisseurs, discerning whisky collectors and lovers of fine old scotch whiskies.
