The Bruichladdich PHD_135 2016/1881 Islay Single Malt Whisky (Progressive Hebridean Distillers, 135 years) was bottled in a limited edition of 1.881 individually numbered bottles to celebrate the Feis Ile music and whisky festival in the year 2016 and the 135th anniversary of the Bruichladdich distillery, was only available on site at the distillery and sold out within a short time. The 10ppm peated Bruichladdich Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky was allowed to mature for 14 years in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks, ex-sherry casks and French wine casks before being finished in selected virgin oak casks.
This exceptional Islay single malt Scotch whisky was bottled at 50% vol. with an age of 15 years without the addition of colourants and chill filtration, in line with Bruichladdich s claim to be a progressive Hybridean distiller. Bruichladdich shows with this great Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky in the best way how clearly the bourbon, wine, sherry and virgin oak casks used can be recognised. Almost a masterpiece, no one facet overpowers the other and the single malt impressively demonstrates the use and handling of carefully selected casks in the creation of an innovative whisky.
