The wonderful Glenmorangie Milsean Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the seventh release in Glenmorangie s Limited Private Edition series from the year 2015. The jewel in the Glenmorangie Limited Private Edition - Milsean - is a carefully crafted blend of different ages and cask types, matured in American oak bourbon casks and re-toasted wine casks from Portugal. The result is a lush and flavourful Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky that takes its place in the Glenmorangie Private Edition, offering connoisseurs a single malt with a special character and a journey into the past.
Inspired by the extravagant and diverse selection of traditional sweet shops, Master Blender Dr Bill Lumsden set to work using former wine casks from Portugal, known for their powerful aromas with elegance and finesse, which lend the whisky an incredible sweetness. These former red wine casks were flame toasted to enhance the sweeter notes of Glenmorangie and filled with Glenmorangie matured in bourbon oak casks.
The wine casks imparted some of their strength to the whisky, but also some of their dark, tarry fruitiness. The result is a magnificent Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which is sweet and spicy on the nose with notes of sugar cane, ripe fruit, candy sweetness and buttery coconut. The flavour is intense and complex, like a sweet shop with plums, cherries, candied orange peel, melon and sugar with spices. The finish is long and warm with ginger, brown sugar, cake and a wonderful fruitiness - a successful Glenmorangie single malt with depth and a worthy addition to the Limited Private Edition series.
