A rare old bottling of the vintage 1991 16 year old Lagavulin Double Matured Distillers Edition Special Release Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky and the first vintage 1991 Distillers Edition release from the year 2007. This 16-year-old Lagavulin Islay single malt Scotch whisky from the Classic Malts selection by Islay legend Lagavulin was distilled in the year 1991, was matured for many years in American Oak Bourbon casks and up to 6 months in European Pedro Ximenez Sherry oak casks - these give the whisky more fruit such as sultanas and dried fruit and a syrupy character. The bottling took place in the year 2007 at 43.0% vol. and the batch number lgv.04/495 under the direction of distillery manager Donald Renwick.
Very accomplished and complex, this mellowed vintage 1991 16 years Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky fulfils the expected Lagavulin intensity with elegance and style and can certainly be described as exceptional. With its beautiful dark gold colour, this Lagavulin Islay single malt shows its complexity and maturity, combined with a beautiful nose of syrup, oranges, smoke, wet wood, sea and sherry. On the palate with notes of sweet creamy smoke, liquorice, smoked sweets and sherry. The finish is long with the typical Islay smoke, liquorice and pepper and impressively shows the unique character of the 16-year-old Lagavulin Distillers Edition 2007 Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky - winner of a Gold Medal and Best in Class at the IWSC, as well as the Best Peated Malt in the premium category at the Malt Maniacs Awards 2008. Perhaps unsuprisingly it is a stunning whisky and is very highly rated indeed!
