The exquisite Macallan Folio 5 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the fifth release in the luxury Macallan Archival bottling range, an exclusive series for collectors and connoisseurs that celebrates Macallan s legendary advertising campaigns from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and a very limited expression that revives The Macallan s classic advertising style.
The inspiration for the Macallan Folio 5 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky comes from a humorous newspaper ad from the 1980s featuring the so-called Luggy Bonnet (a traditional Scottish cap with earflaps, similar to a deerstalker). The advertising campaign told an anecdote about a Scottish sportsman or gamekeeper who suffered a dramatic mishap: He missed his landowner s offer of a dram of Macallan Single Malt because his cap was tied so tightly over his ears that he simply didn t hear the invitation; the campaign was therefore intended to warn readers - with a wink - of the disaster of missing out on a Macallan whisky. The message of the ad was: keep this knot firmly tied, so you never miss the offer of a Macallan.
The Macallan Folio 5 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is presented in a special metal case designed to resemble a book-shaped tin, featuring an illustration of the Luggy Bonnet holding a bound book -- a nod to an advertisement that tells the story of the Luggy Bonnet.
This captivating Macallan Highland Single Malt Whisky boasts a rich aroma of dates and fresh figs, merging into sweet sultanas with a warming ginger and wood spice. The Macallan Folio 5 Single Malt Scotch Whisky is inspired by the iconic advert, bringing this memorable campaign back to life after many years.
The Macallan Archival collection first appeared in 2015 and goes back to Sir John Hegarty of the advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, who was responsible for the advertising campaign at the time. According to this, Sir Sir John Hegarty commented on this iconic advertising campaign in a press article. He said that occasionally there are communications that capture the special essence of a brand. Because it would simply be impossible to separate the advertising from the actual product. Looking back today, or rather 25 years later, and remembering that time is the best critic of all, I am even more firmly convinced of what I said then. I would also add the attributes funny, intelligent, distinctive and above all unforgettable. Creativity can be described as an expression of personality. And the advertising of the time is indeed an expression of the personality of this now world-famous and iconic whisky from the house of Macallan.
The Macallan Folio 5 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky was released in 2019 as a masterpiece of Scottish distilling and contemporary history in a limited edition of 3,250 bottles (unconfirmed!) as part of the special Macallan Archive bottling series at 43.0% ABV and was available in February 2020 only through a ballot on the Macallan website.
