With the Macallan Twenties 1920s Travel Range Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Macallan recreated the style of its whiskies from the 1920s and sold them exclusively in limited editions on the global travel retail market from 1999 to 2001. The early bottlings from the Macallan Travel Range series were bottled in 1999-2000 with a golden screw cap, which was unusual at the time, at 40% ABV and 500ml.
The special and collectible Macallan Travel Range consists of a series of four Macallan single malt Scotch whiskies, recreated by Macallan master distiller David Robertson to reflect the style of The Macallan from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The distinctive packaging features a classic example of the travel style of each era.
To recreate the flavour of Macallan Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the 1920s, bottles from that decade were opened and their aroma and flavour combined with more recent distillations. After the end of the Second World War, the shortage of sherry casks disappeared and Macallan once again began to use exclusively first and second-fill sherry casks for the maturation of Macallan Single Malt. The result is a wonderfully rich and spicy Macallan Single Malt, with notes of orange peel, lime, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla and marzipan. The taste is full-bodied, smooth and sweet with orange, vanilla pudding, gingerbread, spices, ginger and fine oak. The finish is long and dry with vanilla, subtle peat smoke and oak - a perfect replica of a Macallan from that era.
