A rare and fine 25 year old Mortlach Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled after 25 years of maturation in selected American oak bourbon casks as a crystal decanter edition in 2014 in a limited edition at 43.4% vol. This exceptional 25 years Mortlach Crystal Decanter Limited Edition Speyside Single Malt was the first official bottling after many years alongside the 16 year old Mortlach from the Flora and Fauna series and was presented in an elegantly designed decanter and an eye-catching black presentation box with book at the launch of the Diageo range in 2014 and is now one of the oldest original bottlings available from the Mortlach distillery.
The great 25 years Mortlach Speyside Single Malt shows itself in the nose with beeswax, honey, walnuts, apricots and red peaches, the taste is voluminous and oily with fruity notes, dark chocolate, oranges, martzipan, honey, peppermint, spicy notes, cinnamon and leather and the obligatory slightly meaty note, the finish is complex, long and spicy with peppery fruit and honey - a magnificent Mortlach with a beautiful balance that is unparalleled today and was awarded 89 points by Serge Valentin on WhiskyFun.
The distinctively rich, meaty character of Mortlach single malt is achieved through a special process known as 2.81 distillation. Invented by Dr Alexander Cowie in 1896, 2.81 distillation uses six unique stills that produce three different spirit characters, which are then blended together to create Mortlach s signature style.
