An extremely rare and exclusive 15-year-old Nikka Miyagikyo Japan Single Cask Whisky from the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, located in a valley near the city of Sendai in the north of the main island of Honshu, at the confluence of two rivers (Hirose and Nikkawa). This special and unique 15 years Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky matured for 15 years in an oak cask with the cask no. 51417 and was probably bottled in the year 2012-2013 without the addition of colourings or chill filtration at cask strength 60.0% ABV in 180 ml and 500 ml bottles exclusively for visitors to the distillery in a limited edition.
Miyagikyo is Nikkas second largest distillery after Yoichi and plays a crucial role in the diversity of Japanese whisky. The key difference between Miyagikyo and Yoichi lies in the distillation process. The stills are heated with indirect steam (steam coils). This allows a gentler distillation at lower temperatures (in contrast to the coal firing at Yoichi), which makes the whisky smoother and more floral. Its profile is more similar to the fruity whiskies of Scotlands Speyside or Lowlands.
