Single Cask Whisky

Buy rare and selected Single Cask Whisky

Single cask whisky is a whisky that comes from a single cask (commonly used for Scotch whisky in particular), but whose characteristics and cask ageing are unfortunately not precisely defined. The bottles from a single cask are often numbered consecutively and labelled with details of the cask number, type, distillation and bottling date and are only available in a limited quantity determined by the cask size. What applies to vintage whisky is all the more pronounced for single cask bottlings and the quality can be different for each different bottling or the cask used. A single cask edition is always something very special for a distillery. A higher level of quality and greater individuality cannot usually be achieved, as only the very best, most exceptional and rarest casks are usually brought to market as single cask whisky. Single cask bottling offers the absolute advantage of a very individual flavour, which however - and this is the biggest disadvantage - cannot be completely reproduced. If the bottling of a single cask whisky is sold out, you can usually count yourself lucky to have obtained a bottle yourself. For a distillery, single cask bottling usually means a significant amount of extra work, which is why the single cask bottlings from the well-known distilleries and in particular the exclusive single cask whiskies from the independent bottlers Gordon and MacPhail, Duncan Taylor, Murray McDavid and Signatory Vintage often cost many times more than the standard bottling and old bottlings from the Rare Auld Edition, Connoisseurs Choice, Rare Vintage, Old Malt Cask or Rare Cask are particularly sought after by connoisseurs and aficionados and are now coveted whisky rarities among collectors.
