A rare vintage 1991 25-year-old Trinidad single cask rum from the Italian bottler Silver Seal and Ernesto Mainardi from the Silver Seal Wildlife single cask rum series, which is well known among connoisseurs. This fine and exclusive Trindad Distillers Premium Single Cask Rum was distilled in December 1991 and matured for 25 years in a tropical climate in an oak cask with the cask no. 2458 before being bottled in June 2017 without added sugar or colouring in a limited edition of 312 individually numbered bottles at 51.0% vol. in support of Rock no War! in Scotland and was only available in a few European countries.
This great Trinidad rum comes from Trinidad United Distillers and from the production facility for the world-renowned Angostura cocktail bitters. It was built by the company in 1947 to produce rum for its world-famous bitter liqueur, but also to distil bulk rum for export. Originally, the distillery consisted of a single Savalle column still, but this was replaced by a five-column still in 1975 following Bacardi s investment to produce more bulk rum. Two more of these column stills were added in 1985 and 1999. A Vendome pot still was briefly experimented with in the early 2000s, but was quickly sold to St Lucia Distillers by the then common parent company CL Financial. Following the financial crash in 2007, the company was forced to divest much of its rum portfolio, but retained a majority stake in Angostura after being bailed out by the local government to prevent a national treasure from becoming foreign-owned. Trinidad Distillers remains one of the largest rum distilleries in the Caribbean, producing around 8.5 million litres per year.
The Silver Seal Whisky Company from Parma, Italy, is one of Italy s oldest independent bottlers of fine whiskies and premium rums, which places particular emphasis on quality, quantity and authenticity in its selection. The company is the successor to the bottling company Sestante Import Srl, which was founded in 1979 and ceased trading in 1990. Originally, Silver Seal only traded in various types of whisky from Scotland, but later decided to expand its operations and enter the independent rum trade and has also made a name for itself over the years with outstanding bottlings of Demerara rums. Over time, bottlings of rums from other countries such as Trinidad (mainly Caroni), Jamaica, Barbados, Haiti, Panama, Nicaragua etc. were added. Since 1999, Silver Seal has been bottling rums with the silver seal and always with very colourful bottle labels, in particular the unique Wildlife Collection with particularly exotic motifs from the Caribbean. This is also emphasised by the colourful and expressive labels, which feature all kinds of flora and fauna from the Caribbean. This has been delighting fans all over the world for many years, as it stands for the highest quality and most characterful rum varieties from all over the world and offers a high collector s value.
The company does not have its own warehouse capacity, but buys the casks directly from the distilleries and has them bottled in Scotland. The exquisite bottlings are distributed by Massimo Righi, the managing director of Whisky Antique in Italy.
