Whistlepig The Boss Hog VIII LapuLapus Pacific 17 Years Release 2021 Philippine Rum Barrels Finish Single Barrel No. 7 Straight Rye Whiskey 52,4% Vol. - exclusive bottling of a rare Rye Masterpiece from Whistlepig!
This rare over 17 year-old Whistlepig The Boss Hog VIII LapuLapu s Pacific Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey is the 8th edition and was bottled by barrel no. 7 without the addition of colourants and chill filtration in the years 2021 at barrel strength 52.4% vol. by hand on the Whistlepig farm. The Whistlepig Straight Rye Whiskeys from the limited The Boss Hog series are particularly old and exclusive rye whiskeys, are among the most awarded rye whiskeys in the world today and are considered exclusive collector s rarities.
The special and limited single barrel Boss Hog editions are special experiments with wood and finishing from the small Whistle Pig Farm in Vermont and were created under the direction of former Maker s Mark master distiller Dave Pickerell.
Some lucky connoisseurs and lovers of fine whiskeys have the earlier Boss Hog editions on their shelves at home and sample them with a pipette on special occasions, because these products are always amazing. As the numerical name suggests, Whistle Pig The Boss Hog VIII LapuLapu s Pacific Straight Rye Whisky is first and foremost an incredible, premium single barrel rye whiskey that has been matured for nearly 18 years.
The Whistlepig LapuLapu s Pacific is also the sequel to The Boss Hog VII: Magellan s Atlantic, which was released in 2020. The Boss Hog VIII continues the journey across the Pacific, offering a straight rye whiskey matured for 14 years in new American oak, followed by a double finish in heavily toasted barrels previously used to store Philippine rum in small batches and on a single island. The Boss Hog VIII is inspired by the Philippines, where Magellan met his fate at the hands of the Filipino hero LapuLapu in the Battle of Mactan. Magellan s voyage ended in the Philippines on 27th April 1521, when the victory of the natives drove away the Spanish fleet. The Philippine rum barrels for The Boss Hog VIII come from a small island south-west of Cebu, where the battle took place. They had previously stored rum for seven to ten years.
The exquisite rye whiskey was first given a long finish in 7-year-old Philippine rum barrels, followed by a shorter finish in 10-year-old Philippine rum barrels. The older rum is darker and stronger, so the barrels need less time to impart notes to the whiskey.
On the nose, the Whistlepic Lapulapu s Pacific Rye Whiskey presents strong vanilla flavours with delicate tropical notes such as ripe bananas, freshly picked lemons and molasses. The palate is freshly ground cinnamon with citrus peel, caramel and light toffee notes and the finish is characterised by tanned leather, fine brown sugar, nutmeg and allspice with a lingering black pepper rye spice.
The Whistlepig Boss Hog VIII Lapulapu s Pacific comes in a gift box documenting the journey and is topped with a pewter stopper featuring LapuLapu s likeness in the handcrafted pewter pig. Whisky collectors are invited to join the expedition by registering at TheBossHogVIII.com. Using the unique code found on the neck label of the bottle, collectors can access exclusive content.
