The 25 years Laphroaig The Bessie Williamson Story Limited 2019 Edition Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky is a tribute to the life of Bessie Williamson, the first woman to own and manage a Scotch whisky distillery in the 20th century. She started as a typist at the old Laphroaig distillery in 1934, aged just 23, and worked her way up to office manager. When the then owner of the distillery, Ian Hunter, suffered a stroke in 1938, she took on more responsibility and was appointed manager of the distillery in 1938. Under her leadership, the distillery underwent many improvements and enjoyed great success overseas.
This 25 years Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch whisky honours the long-lasting impact of Bessie Williamson on the Laphroaig distillery and the whisky industry as a whole.
