Jedes der Fässer verfügt über einzigartige Eigenschaften und experimentelle Veränderungen in der Maische-Berechnung, den Holzarten, barrel Toasts und mehr. Periodisch wird der experimentelle Whiskey in Flaschen abgefüllt und ist in begrenztem Umfang als limitierte Kleinauflage erhältlich, auf dem Etikett sind alle Fakten zu diesem einzigartigen Whiskey aufgeführt. Die Abfüllung erfolgt wegen der geringen verfügbaren Menge in Flaschen mit 375ML Inhalt. Diese besonderen Bourbon Whiskeys von Buffalo Trace aus der Experimental Collection werden in den USA nur an einige wenige handverlesene Händler ausgeliefert, sind in Europa so gut wie gar nicht erhältlich und zählen selbst bei den Spezialauktionen von Bonhams oder Christies zu den absoluten Raritäten unter Bourbon-Liebhabern und Kennern.
These special barrel were filled May 16, 1989 and bottled June 27, 2012. For 23 years, this giant barrel rested full on the ground floor of Warehouse K. After 23 years, the whiskey has very complex flavors and is full bodied with hints of sassafras, caramel, birch and tea berry. American whiskey typically ages in 53 gallon oak barrels, but these whiskeys matured in 135 gallon barrels for 23 years. Additionally, the barrel were crafted from French oak, and had previously contained some sort of wine. The exact type of wine was lost in the records. Furthermore, these giant barrels underwent a #3 char, varying from Buffalo Trace s typical #4 char. This experiment was a multifaceted investigation in crafting bourbon.
For more than two decades, Buffalo Trace has been experimenting with recipes and different processes to explore the effects of whiskey maturation and taste. Currently, there are more than 4,000 experimental barrel whiskeys of different ages in the warehouses of Buffalo Trace. Each of the barrels has unique characteristics and experimental changes in the mash calculation, wood species, barrel toasts and more. The experimental whiskey is periodically bottled and is available in limited quantities as a small limited edition, and the label contains all the facts about this unique whiskey. Due to the small available quantity, they are filled in bottles with 375ML content. These special Bourbon whiskeys from Buffalo Trace of the Experimental Collection are only delivered to a few selected dealers in the USA, are almost unavailable in Europe and are one of the absolute rarities among bourbon lovers and connoisseurs even at the special auctions of Bonhams, Krüger or Christies.
