Ein äußerst seltener Vintage 1977 18 Jahre alter Macallan Sherry Wood Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, der im Jahr 1996 als 75cl-Bottling für den Duty-Free-Markt ohne Zusatz von Farbstoffen und Kühlfiltration mit 43,0% Vol. abgefüllt wurde und heute zu den besonders raren Sherry Wood Originalabfüllungen von Macallan aus den späten 1970er Jahren zählt.
Der 18 Jahre alte Macallan Oloroso Sherry Oak Cask Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky ist Teil der Serie, die Macallan zu ihrem nahezu legendären Ruf verhalf: den reinen Sherryfass-Abfüllungen. Erst Mitte der 1960er Jahre konzentrierte man sich bei Macallan auf Sherry-Fass gereifte Single Malts und konnte sich mit der außergewöhnlichen Fasspolitik in geringer Zeit weltweit bei Whisky-Kennern und große Anerkennung verschaffen. Man experimentierte damals mit verschiedenen Sherry-Fässern und entschied sich dann zur Verwendung von europäischen Oloroso-Fässern, in denen vorher der weltweit bekannte spanische Likör-Wein gelagert wurde. Trotz der Krise bei den Sherry-Produzenten in den 1980er Jahren gelang es der Speyside-Destillerie Macallan, den Nachschub an ausgesuchten Sherry-Fässern zu sichern und die begehrten im Sherry-Cask gereiften Whiskys weiter abzufüllen.
Heute zählt der 18 Jahre alte Sherry-Oak Macallan Single Malt mit zu den weltweit bekanntesten und gefragtesten Whiskys, genießt wegen seiner ausgezeichneten Qualität sowie der Abfüllung ohne Farbstoffe einen nahezu legendären Ruf und darf durchaus als Ikone unter den Scotch-Whiskys bezeichnet werden. Im Jahr 2004 bzw. mit der Vintage 1986 Abfüllung wechselte Macallan das Design und die Verpackung des 18 Years Sherry Oak, die Flaschen und Verpackung weisen eine moderne Form auf und wurden mit einer shiny-purple Box ausgeliefert, ab dem Jahr 1992 wurden die Abfüllungen zu dem vorhandenen Bottle-Code zum Schutz vor Fälschungen zusätzlich mit einem individuell nummerierten Sicherheits-Hologramm an der Kapsel versehen. Im Jahr 2017 erfolgte dann der Wechsel von der Vintage-Angabe auf den Flaschen und der Macallan Sherry Oak Scotch Whisky trägt seitdem die Angabe des Abfülljahres / Release auf dem Flaschenetikett sowie der Verpackung. Inspiriert von der Rare Cask Serie hat Macallan im April 2018 dann das Design der Flasche geändert und die markante v-förmig in das Glas eingearbeiteten Einkerbung am Übergang zum Flaschenhals mit einem optimierten Wiederbefüllungs- und Fälschungsschutz kombiniert mit einer geprägten Box mit hochwertigem Design präsentiert.

An incredibly rare vintage 1974 18 years-old Macallan Sherry Wood Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled in the year 1996 without added colouring or chill filtration as a 75cl bottling for the duty-free market at 43.0% vol. and now one of Macallan s particularly rare original bottlings from the late 1970s.
The 18-year-old Macallan Oloroso sherry oak matured Highland single malt scotch whisky is part of the series that gave Macallan its almost legendary reputation: the pure sherry cask bottlings. It was not until the mid-1960s that Macallan concentrated on sherry cask-matured single malts and was able to gain great recognition among whisky connoisseurs worldwide in a short space of time with its unusual cask policy. At that time, they experimented with different sherry casks and then decided to use European Oloroso casks, in which the world-famous Spanish liqueur wine had previously been seasoned. Despite the crisis in the 1980s among sherry producers, the Speyside distillery Macallan managed to secure a supply of selected sherry casks and to continue bottling the coveted sherry cask matured whiskies.
Today, the 18-year-old sherry-oak Macallan Single Malt is one of the world s best-known and most sought-after whiskies, enjoys an almost legendary reputation due to its excellent quality and the fact that it is bottled without colouring agents, and can certainly be described as an icon among Scotch whiskies. In 2004, respectively with the vintage 1986 bottling, Macallan changed the design and the packaging of the 18 years Sherry Oak, these bottles and packaging have a modern shape and were delivered with a shiny-purple box, from 1992 the bottlings were additionally marked with a security hologram on the capsule and an individual number in addition to the existing bottle code to protect against counterfeiting. In 2017, the vintage indication on the bottles was changed and the Macallan Sherry Oak Scotch Whisky now bears the indication of the year of bottling / release on the bottle label as well as on the packaging. Inspired by the Rare Cask series, Macallan then changed the design of the bottle in April 2018, presenting the distinctive v-shaped indentation worked into the glass at the transition to the bottle neck with optimised refill and counterfeit protection combined with an embossed box with a high-quality design.
